Wearable Art - Jewelry
Guest Artist @ Birdsong Studio , 5 Sixth Avenue, Betterton, MD 21610
Joy's fun "infinity" bracelets and necklaces are inspired by the colors and textures of combinations of glass, shell, crystal, porcelain and silver plated tube beads and charms. These are strung using a strong .8 mm elastic cord. Joy's wearable art is easy to wear, no clasps to struggle with. Stretch it on and it goes "round and round". Her popular bracelet/necklace can be triple wrapped as a bracelet or simply worn as a necklace. Earrings and kids jewelry are also available.

The Eastern Shore's landscape, waterways and open skies provide daily inspiration for creating images, both representational and non-objective. The challenge is to convey the emotions inherent in the process of applying paint to canvas and paper.

My paintings are geometrically-abstract works that emphasize grid-based relationships, rhythm, and internal space. They are driven by my interest in surface and structure, and incorporate natural and manmade referents.

I enjoy experimenting with scale, painting the same image small and then larger. The small pastels can seem like little jewels, intense and glowing with pastel’s unique pigments. In the large version I hope to create the dramatic impact that a larger scale can give to the image.

Guest Artist @ Robert Ortiz Studios, 207 S. Cross Street, Chestertown, MD 21620
I received a BA in Studio Fine Arts from Marist College in 2005, and an MFA in Printmaking from Kansas State University in 2008. I utilize various art techniques including printmaking (etching, mezzotint, woodcut, monotype), bookmaking, painting and photography. My subject matter mainly stems from my love of nature. My style comes from my love of black and white photography, high-contrast images, and the energy from lively, vibrant colors. I currently live and work in Chestertown, Maryland.

I am a local fiber artist and basket weaver. I use unique and indigenous materials, as well as materials I bring back from my many travels. My work ranges from traditional, sculptured, to contemporary. Some are utilitarian and decorative, while others are purely decorative. My work reflects the beauty I see in the world around me and the natural surroundings here on the Eastern Shore.

When I retired, I wanted to open a yarn shop to share my love of knitting. What I really wanted to do was knit and teach the love of knitting. With the help of world class knitting instructors, I learned not only how to make my garments handmade rather than homemade, but also how to teach others to do the same. I have taught in Maryland and Maine for 18 years. In my NEW studio you will see beautiful designer garments made with the best yarns in beautiful colors and color combinations.
