My painting is inspired by the ancient tradition of brush painting, created by grinding ink stick with ink stone, with the use of bamboo handled brushes and rice paper. my subjects are found in nature, often viewed from my waterfront studio window, a feast of birds, eagles, and ever changing tides. I use watercolor and handmade papers for my paintings, whether traditional images or abstract.

21590 Pine Ln. Rock Hall, MD 21661 / 703-801-3702

My paintings are geometrically-abstract works that emphasize grid-based relationships, rhythm, and internal space. Working with a reductive palette of white, grey and black allows me to emphasize serene arrangements of forms, using subtleties of texture and color to create a quiet material presence. I think of my work as an antidote to the time-bound, homocentric, mechanical logic of our culture, as a respite for the eye and the soul.

My work is diverse in subject, price, and medium! My small studies are usually done in watercolors. After that, I might go larger in watercolors, or oils, or acrylics! I have lived on a boat for many years, and now that I have a house, it's fun to explore other mediums! My husband is also an artist and is much more 3D than myself ! So, he helps create my framing, etc.

Mary Pritchard Art

119 High Street, Chestertown MD 21620 / 410-708-5829

Two events have had a profound influence on my work as an artist. One was the return to the landscape of Maryland’s Eastern Shore where I spent my childhood. The other was the discovery of pastel as a medium. This combination of old and new enabled me to reinvigorate my painting efforts and discover a new love of teaching. My favorite subjects are small towns and rural landscapes in Maryland, Maine and Nova Scotia. Pastel is a wonderful medium--fast, flexible and forgiving. The studio tour enables visitors to go behind the scenes in a working studio and for me to share my enthusiasm about my medium.

I received a BA in Studio Fine Arts from Marist College in 2005, and an MFA in Printmaking from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas in 2008. I utilize various art techniques including printmaking (etching, mezzotint, woodcut, monotype), bookmaking, painting and photography. My subject matter mainly stems from my love of nature. Traveling and exploring is an enormous source of inspiration to my work. My style comes from my love of black and white photography, high-contrast images, and the energy from lively, vibrant colors. I currently live and work in Chestertown, Maryland.

Linda Roy Walls' Photographs & Memories

320 Cannon Street, Chestertown, MD 21620 / 410-758-7335

To me, photography is an adrenalin rush. I pursue the nuances and wonders of living creatures and landscapes, whether my image is a lucky coincidence or purposeful. Birds, animals, flowers, weather, and water beckon. My primary desire is to link humans to nature's intimacy through images on canvas, metal, and wood.

Cottage on Pearce

25729 Pearce Way Chestertown MD 21620 / 410-708-4373

When I retired from my faculty position at Johns Hopkins University I wanted to open a yarn shop to share my love of knitting, but what I really wanted to do was knit and teach the love of knitting, to see the light go on in a student's eyes. With the help of world class instructors, I learned not only how to make my garments handmade rather than homemade, but how to teach others to do the same. I have taught in Maryland and Maine for 17 years and enjoyed every minute. In my NEW studio you will see beautiful one-of-a-kind designer garments made with the best yarns in beautiful colors and color combinations.
