My painting is inspired by the ancient tradition of brush painting, created by grinding ink stick with ink stone, with the use of bamboo handled brushes and rice paper. my subjects are found in nature, often viewed from my waterfront studio window, a feast of birds, eagles, and ever changing tides. I use watercolor and handmade papers for my paintings, whether traditional images or abstract.

My work is diverse in subject, price, and medium! My small studies are usually done in watercolors. After that, I might go larger in watercolors, or oils, or acrylics! I have lived on a boat for many years, and now that I have a house, it's fun to explore other mediums! My husband is also an artist and is much more 3D than myself ! So, he helps create my framing, etc.

Pastel is a direct and colorful medium, ideal for depicting my favorites subjects--the landscapes of Maryland's' Eastern Shore, coastal Maine and rural Nova Scotia. I enjoy sharing this fascinating medium with students and visitors beyond the formality of gallery openings. A studio visit is a great way to see the entire process, from beginning sketches to the finished pastel.

To me, photography is an adrenaline rush.  I pursue the nuances and wonders of living creatures and landscapes, whether my image is a coincidence or a moment I waited hours to capture.   Birds, animals, flowers, weather, and water beckon. My primary desire is to link humans to nature’s intimacy, reflected in God's palette.

Cottage on Pearce

25729 Pearce Way, Chestertown, MD 21620

When I retired, I wanted to open a yarn shop to share my love of knitting. What I really wanted to do was knit and teach the love of knitting. With the help of world class knitting instructors, I learned not only how to make my garments handmade rather than homemade, but also how to teach others to do the same. I have taught in Maryland and Maine for 18 years. In my NEW studio you will see beautiful designer garments made with the best yarns in beautiful colors and color combinations.
