The Eastern Shore's landscape, waterways and open skies provide daily inspiration for creating images, both representational and non-objective. The challenge is to convey the emotions inherent in the process of applying paint to canvas and paper.

We are a husband and wife team known for our innovative designs, complex construction, and precise finishing of our art glass. Earlier careers in engineering and finance ingrained in us an acute attention to detail which we apply to all phases of our craft. Our award-winning glass is featured in galleries across the United States.

My paintings are geometrically-abstract works that emphasize grid-based relationships, rhythm, and internal space. They are driven by my interest in surface and structure, and incorporate natural and manmade referents.

I first joined the Chestertown Arts League in 1979. I then became a member of Chestertown River Arts when established in 2012. And in 2013 was juried into the Working Artists Forum, (WAF). In 2017 I became a member of The Arts League Of Ocean City. I paint mainly landscapes, still life, architecture, and whatever inspires me. It's never-ending.

I have been making furniture for 30 years, the last 20 here in my studio in Chestertown. The newest addition to the "Ortizstudios" line is my one on one, week long workshops where we work together to create a piece of furniture that is sure to become a family heirloom.

I enjoy experimenting with scale, painting the same image small and then larger. The small pastels can seem like little jewels, intense and glowing with pastel’s unique pigments. In the large version I hope to create the dramatic impact that a larger scale can give to the image.

I received a BA in Studio Fine Arts from Marist College in 2005, and an MFA in Printmaking from Kansas State University in 2008. I utilize various art techniques including printmaking (etching, mezzotint, woodcut, monotype), bookmaking, painting and photography. My subject matter mainly stems from my love of nature. My style comes from my love of black and white photography, high-contrast images, and the energy from lively, vibrant colors. I currently live and work in Chestertown, Maryland.
308 Park Row, Chestertown, MD 21620
To me, photography is an adrenaline rush. I pursue the nuances and wonders of living creatures and landscapes, whether my image is a coincidence or a moment I waited hours to capture. Birds, animals, flowers, weather, and water beckon. My primary desire is to link humans to nature’s intimacy, reflected in God's palette.

When I retired, I wanted to open a yarn shop to share my love of knitting. What I really wanted to do was knit and teach the love of knitting. With the help of world class knitting instructors, I learned not only how to make my garments handmade rather than homemade, but also how to teach others to do the same. I have taught in Maryland and Maine for 18 years. In my NEW studio you will see beautiful designer garments made with the best yarns in beautiful colors and color combinations.
